In October of 2009 recording artist, actress and producer, Kimbra Westervelt hosted a talent
show with vocal contestants competing for cash and prizes. Each week, up to fifteen
contestants vied for five finalist spots accompanied by “Hollywood’s Most Wanted” band. In
the semi-finals, the winner was determined by the number of dollar votes received from the
audience. On October 8, the five finalists competed for the entire purse of dollar votes,
selected by industry professional judges.
The revered Grammy Award winner, Nan Schwartz, was one of three judges on the panel to
select the first winner. Renowned casting director and musician, Billy DaMota, and respected
guitarist/recording artist/producer and president of MasterSource Music Catalogue, Marc
Ferrari, also sat on the panel.
Creator of the contest, Kellie Nicholson, was so impressed with Westervelt’s performance
and selection of talent that she hopes to continue the contests as long as the talent shows
up. “Initially, I thought this could be a fun night in a bar, but Kimbra Westervelt has taken it
to another level with her charisma and production experience,” says Nicholson. There are
also plans to feature many of the contestants in a “Best of Hollywood” performance.
